Introducing Text to Trade

Bruno Koba5 min read

Starting today, you can build a trading strategy with AI in Astor and execute it in your own Robinhood agentic account. Astor is a personal investing agent: you describe an idea in a sentence, Astor proposes a basket of companies sized against what you already own, and nothing is bought until you approve each trade.

An idea like “data centers will need a lot more electricity” is easy to have and hard to turn into something you own. You have to decide which companies count, how much of each to buy, and how it fits with what you already hold. We built Text to Trade to help with that part, while every decision stays with you.

How does Text to Trade work in Astor?

  1. You describe the idea in a sentence, the way you’d say it to a friend.
  2. Astor asks a few questions to sharpen it, because a loose theme needs edges before it can become a list of companies.
  3. Astor proposes a basket and explains why each company made the cut over the alternatives, so you can push back on a specific pick rather than the whole basket.
  4. Astor sizes it against what you already own and the budget you set, because a strategy that doubles up on something you already hold is a bigger bet than it looks.
  5. You approve every trade. Each order waits for your yes, then executes in your Robinhood agentic account.

Say, hypothetically, you think nuclear power will matter more as data centers grow, and you want to set aside $1,000 for it (an illustrative number, not a suggestion). Astor would propose a handful of companies and say why each one is there. Then you’d review each trade and decide.

What is a Robinhood agentic account?

It’s a separate account at Robinhood that an AI agent can trade in. Robinhood launched agentic trading in May 2026 as a beta that started with stocks. You open a dedicated account, apart from the rest of your Robinhood portfolio, and choose how much to put in it. A connected agent only has access to the money you deposit there.

Robinhood’s own pages add a few details:

  • You need a primary individual investing account at Robinhood in good standing before you can open an agentic account.
  • Outside agents connect through Robinhood’s Trading MCP server, and Robinhood prompts you to open the agentic account when you authorize one.
  • A connected agent can see your other Robinhood accounts but can only place trades in the agentic account.
  • Robinhood sends a push notification whenever an agent makes a trade, and you can disconnect the agent at any time.

Robinhood also says plainly that it doesn’t control, supervise, monitor, recommend or audit the agents that connect to these accounts, so it’s worth knowing who is behind yours.

Why does every trade wait for your yes?

Because we don’t make decisions for anyone. Robinhood lets agents be set up to trade without asking each time, and we chose not to build Astor that way. Astor does the research and proposes the trades, and nothing is bought until you approve each one. In your other connected accounts, at Robinhood or anywhere else, Astor can see your holdings but can’t trade or move money.

Astor is an SEC-registered investment adviser and owes its clients a fiduciary duty. The AI is the tool we use to do the work, and it can be wrong, so keeping you in the loop on every trade is the honest way to use it.

What are the risks?

There are real ones, and I’d rather you hear them from us.

  • A theme strategy can lose money. Companies built around one idea tend to move together, so when the idea falls out of favor, most of the basket can fall at once. That’s concentration risk. We don’t show backtests or projected returns, because nobody knows how a theme will do.
  • The AI can be wrong. It can misread what you meant or rely on out-of-date information. Astor shows its reasoning and sources so you can check them before you approve.
  • You could lose what you put in. Robinhood’s disclosures for agentic trading include the possible loss of your entire investment, so only set aside an amount you could live with seeing fall a long way.

Who is Text to Trade for?

It’s for people who have investing ideas and want help making them specific without handing over the decision. It works only through a Robinhood agentic account, and like the rest of Astor it’s iPhone-only and US-only. If you don’t use Robinhood, everything else in Astor still works with the accounts you connect.

Frequently asked questions

Does Astor trade on its own?

No. Astor proposes trades and explains them, and each one waits for your approval. Once you approve, the order executes in your own Robinhood agentic account, using only the money you set aside there.

Do I need a Robinhood account to use Text to Trade?

Yes. Text to Trade works only through a Robinhood agentic account, and Robinhood requires a primary individual investing account in good standing before you can open one.

Can I lose money with an AI trading strategy?

Yes. Theme strategies can lose money and the AI can be wrong. Robinhood’s disclosures for agentic trading include the possible loss of your entire investment.
