Use Astor in your AI assistant

Gaus, Inc. DBA Astor · Last updated November 2026

Overview

Astor is a personal investing agent. Connecting it to your AI assistant lets the assistant see your Astor portfolio, ask Astor questions, and update accounts you track by hand, with your permission.

It can’t place trades or move money, and through the assistant Astor explains and analyzes but doesn’t tell you what to buy or sell. AI can make mistakes, so check anything important before you act on it.

Setup

You need an Astor account. When the assistant asks you to sign in, use the same email or phone number you use for Astor.

Claude

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors and click + to browse the directory.
  2. Find Astor, click Connect, sign in and approve access.
  3. In a chat, click +, hover over Connectors and make sure Astor is on.

ChatGPT

  1. Click Plugins in the sidebar and search for Astor.
  2. Click Install plugin, sign in and approve access.
  3. In a chat, @mention Astor or just ask about your money.

Muse

  1. Go to Settings > Connectors and tap Connect next to Astor.
  2. Tap Continue, sign in and approve access.

Other apps

In any app that supports remote MCP servers, add a custom connector with the URL https://mcp.astor.app, then sign in and approve access.

To disconnect, remove Astor from the same settings page in your assistant.

What you can ask

  • “What are my biggest positions and sector weights?”
  • “How much Apple do I really own, counting what’s inside my funds?”
  • “Ask Astor why NVDA moved this week and what it meant for my portfolio.”
  • “Add my car to Astor. It’s worth about $18,000.”

Permissions

  • Read lets the assistant see your accounts, holdings, activity, research and Astor’s updates, and ask Astor questions.
  • Update your accounts also lets it create manually tracked accounts, change their holdings, and create a link for you to connect new accounts. It can’t change accounts that sync from your bank or brokerage.
  • Apps that offer a read-only option, such as Muse, connect with read access only, and the update tools aren’t available.
  • Astor never sees your bank or brokerage credentials; accounts connect through Plaid.

Tools

Read tools only look things up. Write tools change your Astor account as soon as they’re called, so the assistant should confirm the exact change with you first. No tool is a sensitive write: none can place a trade, move money, make a purchase or contact anyone.

Errors and limits

When a tool can’t complete, it returns a message saying why, and nothing is changed.

  • Usage limit reached. The connector shares your Astor usage allowance with the app. Tools stop working until it resets; getUsage says when.
  • Connector not available on this account. Contact support.
  • Invalid input. The message says what to fix.
  • Temporary problem. Try again in a moment.
  • There’s no per-minute rate limit beyond the usage allowance.

Troubleshooting

  • It says you have no accounts. Ask it to connect an account. It gives you a link that opens Plaid in your browser.
  • A link in a reply doesn’t open. Report links open in the Astor app, so open them on the phone where Astor is installed.
  • It signed in to the wrong account. Disconnect Astor, connect again, and sign in with the email or phone number you use for Astor.
  • It can’t add or update accounts. The connection is read-only. Reconnect and allow Astor to update your accounts.
  • It’s slow. Questions sent to Astor itself can take a few minutes while it does the research.

Data and support

Questions you send to Astor are saved to your Astor account so the conversation can continue. Astor doesn’t sell personal information; see the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. For help, email support@astor.app. All investments involve risk, including possible loss of principal.
